The First Lady Of Song, Ella Jane Fitzgerald, celebrates in our ears if not in the flesh her 96th Birthday. Always down to sing just about anything, Ella, like Sarah Vaughan, had no issue with interpreting straight up Pop hits of the moment.

So it should be no surprise that she stares down both Herb Alpert and Dionne Warwick and wrestles “This (Individual)’s In Love With You” away from the both of them. One wonders what would have happened if this version was given the chance to become a hit record. To me it is the definitive take on the Bacharach/David chestnut.
